Supplier Code of Conduct for D.R Wakefield & Company Limited (DRW)

The DRW Supplier Code defines the standards we encourage our supply chain to adhere to, ensuring Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations are met within our supply chain. This standard is based on best practices considering the following international standards:

  • The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
  • The International Labour Organisation (ILO)
  • The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and development (OECD)
  • Fair Labour Association (FLA)

Fair trade

Engage in fair trade practices by providing fair wages and ensuring safe working conditions for all workers.

Child labour

Suppliers must follow local laws. Young workers may engage in light work that does not intervene with their education and or physical health.

Forced Labor

Reject all forms of forced or compulsory labour and ensure that all workers are employed voluntarily.

Sustainability

Environmental responsibility

Implement and support sustainable farming practices that protect and preserve the environment, including water conversation, soil health and biodiversity.

Waste management

Promote and practice efficient waste management and recycling methods to minimize environmental impact.

Certifications

Strive to obtain and keep certifications such as Organic, Rainforest Alliance, and Fair Trade to prove commitment to sustainable practices.

European Commission Deforestation Regulations

Coffee is deforestation free to meet EUDR (European Union Deforestation Regulation) when needed, on request geo-location data and or polygons will be available for each farm location.

Quality Control

Quality Standards

Maintain exacting standards of coffee quality from cultivation through processing and delivery, ensuring consistency and excellence.

Transparency

Provide clear and correct information about the origin, processing methods and quality of the coffee supplied.

Social Responsibility

Community Support

Support the development and well-being of the communities, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Equality and Non discrimination

Promote a workplace free from discrimination and harassment, ensuring equal opportunities for all employees and workers.

Business Integrity

Honesty and Transparency

Conduct all business dealings with honesty and transparency, ensuring clear communication and truthful marketing.

Legal Compliance

Follow all applicable local, national, and international laws and regulations related to coffee production and trade.

Anti – Corruption

Uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards bribery, corruption, and any form of unethical business practices.

Health and Safety

Safe working conditions

Ensure that all workplaces meet health and safety standards to protect workers from harm and injury.

Consumer Safety

Ensure that all coffee products are safe for roasting / consumption and meet relevant health and safety standards.

Education and Training

Provide ongoing education and training to workers and employees on best practices in sustainability, quality, and ethical business.

Encourage feedback from all stakeholders and continuously seek innovative solutions to improve practices and products.

If any risk identified with the code of conduct, DRW will always engage with the supplier to seek corrective action, offering support and guidance were needed

Legal and Ethical Compliance

Coffee must be produced following the relevant law legislation of the country of production, including any arrangement conferring the right to use the respective area for the purpose of the production of coffee. 

Coffee must be produced following the relevant legislation of the country of production concerning the legal status of the area of production in terms of: 

(a) land use rights;

(b) environmental protection;

(c) forest-related rules, including forest management and biodiversity conservation, where directly related to wood harvesting;

(d) third parties’ rights;

(e) labour rights;

(f) human rights protected under international law;

(g) the principle of free, prior and informed consent (FPIC), including as set out in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples;

(h) tax, anti-corruption, trade and customs regulations.”
