Supporting roasters with Beanstalk from Daterra

Our producer partners Daterra in Brazil have been figuring out how to best help roasters in the current crisis, and they have hit on the idea to use their network to help boost coffee roasters sales.

They have created a website to list all roaster partners that are operating and selling coffee, so Daterra’s followers can buy from them.

Also, for every Kilo of roasted Daterra coffee people buy during the COVID-19 lockdown, Daterra will plant a tree in Brazil. 1 kg = 1 tree.

They borrowed the name beanstalk from the English fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk. Taking the magic potential of coffee beans and make something beautiful with it.

But why trees?
We are all trying to support each other during this collective anxiety, but at some point, the pandemic is going to end, and we’ll go back to facing our old challenges like global warming.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) an increase of 1 billion ha of forest will be necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2050. Now, that is obviously a global goal, but we all can start somewhere.

Here’s how it works:
To join the Beanstalk Project, just let Daterra know which Daterra coffees you are offering by emailing them here: daterracoffee@daterracoffee.com.br. They will add them to the website www.supportcoffeeroasters.com.

The campaign started on April 14th, and will go on for 60 days. During these two months Beanstalk will be promoted across social media and with a website listing all roasters participating in the movement. At the end of the campaign, you just need to report back to Daterra the number of kilos of Daterra beans you sold.
