Sumatra Wahana Longberry

Cupping notes

Melon, dark choc, orange, chai, sugarcane.

Description

The cherries are picked fully ripe and then brought to the patios where they are sorted and dried for 48 hours.

They then have 120 hours or so being mechanically dried.

The humidity in the air during drying times requires close attention to detail, which a mechanical drier can offer better than patios in this instance.

Longberry formed part of the initial focus in coffee from Wahana Estate.

It is a varietal that (likely) has its roots back in the Ethiopian Harrar varietal that often produced longer narrow shaped beans.

In Indonesia, Longberry was known to be grown only in Aceh, but Wahana took some to Lake Toba for a trial.

It has naturalised in to its own distinct profile there, and is much loved.
