Myanmar Shwe Yi Mon

Cupping notes

Wild strawberry, blueberry, redcurrant, chocolate.

Description

Shwe Yi Mon Estate was bought by U Ye Myint and turned to coffee back in 1998. At 80 acres, there is enough space to experiment, and with a Masters degree in botany, U Ye Myint is happy to do so.

Silver Oak and Macadamia are the main shade trees, but intercrop spacing is one of the experiments run here, alongside shade tree species, fertilization approaches, and drip irrigation.

As founder of both the Mandalay Coffee Association, and the Mandalay Coffee Group that exports the coffee of a lot of producers in the region, the forward thinking and detailed approach is not a surprise.

Selectively harvested cherries are dried for between 18 – 21 days in a solar dome until ready for hulling and export.
